Our performance at Charing Cross Theatre is organised by The Corfu Arts Foundation which is a Charity registered in England by the Charities Commission whose aim is to promote the performing and visual arts in Corfu and to support other charities. They plan to put on operas, concerts, drama, dance and art exhibitions in Corfu town and the outlying villages, to establish a festival, to develop workshops with the Ionian University, to bring international performers to the island and to sponsor rising young musicians from Corfu to enable them to develop their careers. Long term their ambition is to build a multi-purpose concert hall to house opera, drama and concerts with funding from major donors. Their achievements to date include the staging of 4 operas, 2 opera galas, masterclasses and concerts with Susan Bullock and Richard Berkeley-Steele, a concert by the counter-tenor Ben Williamson, sponsorship of 4 students from the University to participate in the masterclasses, sponsorship of a teacher at the University to participate in a week’s masterclass in UK with the renowned voice accompanist Malcolm Martineau, sponsorship of a mezzo-soprano to record a CD of the songs of Napoleon Labelet (a Corfiot composer who worked in UK) and support for the talented young flautist, Daniel Damaskinos, to attend the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin later this year. They have also raised over €5,000 for the charities Melissa and Hamogelo in the past 2 years. For more info on the foundation go to www.corfuartsfoundation.com
