Although there has been a church building on this site since the 12th century, the current St Nicholas is a late Georgian church, built in 1822. Situated in the heart of the old town of Harwich, it is a grade II listed building. Often Praised for its ambience and natural acoustics, St Nicholas Church provides the perfect setting for a number of Harwich Festival concerts and events. Former Harwich Resident Christopher Jones, Master of the Mayflower, is know to have twice married on the site in the late 16th and early 17th Centuries.
