Kate McStraw trained as a Costume Designer at Arts University Bournemouth, however throughout her studies she was driven to collaborate in a broader sense than a traditional design role, leading her to design and produce two outdoor productions which toured to several locations across Dorset, hooked in to a drive to create accessible work in public spaces.
Kate has also worked in creative arts marketing for both Arts University Bournemouth and Pavilion Dance South West, where she led on a number of live and digital projects.
In 2014 Kate was appointed as Assistant Producer on Inside Out Dorset Festival, a 3-week long outdoor arts festival which covered 5 very different locations across Dorset. This launched Kate’s career into further producing roles and soon after she became the Creative Producer for London-based theatre company Butterfly. With Butterfly Kate has produced and designed over 10 productions in the last two years, including gaining Arts Council funding with a collaborative project in Bristol in July 2015, working with Visual Artist Luke Jerram and the National Trust and Forestry Commission at Leigh Woods, Bristol.
Kate’s main passion is creating work which engages diverse audiences through exploring unusual locations for creative work.
